Marian Keyes - Anybody Out There

It's dull & boring, seriously. I finished it anyway.

Catch Me If You Can

If you are a lover of true story, smart & unpredictable story line, and first-classed actors, then you are exactly like me (we should hang out). And you're definitely going to fall in love with this movie, just like me!

It's a true story of Frank Abagnale Jr, third child of the Sr (even though in the movie he was the only one). He successfully impersonated airplane pilot, doctor, teaching assistant, and even attorney. He was also a check forger, and escaped from the police. Twice!

I'm not going to give you review of the movie, you'll find better one across the web anyway. Only suggestion to go pee and take your snacks (plenty of them)
before you start to watch the movie, it's the kind that made you missed something only by blinking.

Fun facts:
  • Although the movie shows Frank Abagnale Jr. as being on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, actually in the real life, he never was

Boys Before Flower - Life Lessons

Instead of spending the weekend reading novel(s), I spent last weekend by watching none other than 'Boys before Flower'. It was recommended a 'must-seen', then I, of course must see it. After spending one and half day watching and overdosed by the sight of beautiful-guys, I spotted some life lessons that we ought to know:
  • If you, by any chance, lost in the middle of the snowstorm, never worry, there's always abandoned-hut that you could use to spend the night, and of course, cozy fire and warm blanket are available
  • Even when you lived in a middle of big city like Seoul, you could bump into someone you know, like your lover, your lover's lover, your long-lost-grandfather, your future mother in law, you name it! O yeah, there's a chance that you can be on TV and someone you know might spot you
  • Yo ladies, during winter just wear thin jacket especially when you went out with boy(s). They are well equipped with thick-and-warm jacket and will lend it to you
  • Surrounded by street gangster? Drowned at sea? Being picked-pocket? 'Super-hero' will show up and save the day
  • Oh, yeah, you can 'freeze' a kiss and stay un-motioned for few seconds to look good in front of camera
  Isn't life beautiful? ;)

Sherlock Holmes - The Movie

I've never been and never will be a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, yet still watched the movie with an expectation to enjoy the Hollywood version of it. Failed big time. Well ... :
  • Downey represented a too emotional version of Holmes
  • Law represented a too handsome and not-very-smart version of Watson
  • The movie shows too many action-acts, bombs, and less detective-like-thinking I was hoping to see. Very different with novel-version-of-Holmes whom had been described as 'skillful in using of astute observation, deductive reasoning and forensic skills'.
Doh, I've always enjoyed the small and baldy detective namely Poirot anyway!

Sushi for Beginners - Marian Keyes

Ok, ok, I am a late starter for 'consuming' Marian Keyes' creations. I pity myself for that.

Well, anyway, this book is the second and half of Keyes' that I have read (I was just started reading
'Anybody Out There' and absentmindedly switched to this one). Being a sushi-eater, surely I was interested in the title.

The first book I read from Keyes was Last Chance Saloon, in Indonesian language. So, I was in shock to read the first Keyes' in English (I dare say it's Irish-English). I spent one week on reading this one and most of the time spent trying to find the meaning of, let say, telly (i assume it's television).

Despite of that little hiccup, the reference from Sunday Express (''Should come with a health warming. It's totally addictive... a real page-turner) was never more right. It is ADDICTIVE. The fact that I couldn't finish it in one day was a torture, I got up sneaking one or two pages, I read it when I was on a bus, even on
a motorcycle.

It's a story of a simple girl, a success editor and a bored-housewife. The way their lives crossed each other and finding happiness in their own way. One is looking through the eagerness to know the future and covered herself with layers of protections kept in her bag. One is by achieving more and more, and ended up losing more and more. The other one is by stealing others' happiness. It's simple, honest and so very true.

Fun Facts:

  • Keyes is regarded by her fans as a pioneer of the so-called 'Chick-Lit'
  • She was an alcoholic

Avatar by James Cameron

Avatar was just simply mind-blowing piece of art. Despite the too many glow-in-the-dark bits and pieces, it was just surreal yet believable, wild yet tender, and it surely left many to the imagination.

I'm in awe of the tag line. 'Believe it, or not'. Totally cheesy, totally eye-catchy, totally awesome.

I vote Avatar for best movie indeed! Also vote for Neytiri for best alien actress (make that category available please)

Well, Mr Cameron... I see you (or should I say Oel Ngati Kameie?)

Fun Facts:

  • The Na'vi language was created by Paul Frommer, a professor at The Marshall School of Business with a doctorate in Linguistic
  • The language has a vocabulary of about 1000 words, with some 30 having been invented by Cameron

Shallow? Define shallow!

I am a reader in and out, I’m a book-freak. I just read everything from the bookshelves. However, if I had many choices, I would always choose easy-to-digest literatures, detective kinda novels, cheeky romance, chick-lits, something to ease minds, I would prefer something with a happy ending, that sort of things

I used to hide my shallow-taste, I used to be ashamed and think that I should have spend my time reading something with more life meaning, something more serious, deeper, something that just… not shallow …

Well, I used to.

I once read somewhere, ‘taste is un-debatable’. That’s one thing. Meg Cabot stated through her ‘Princess Diaries’ (o yeah damn right I read ‘Princess Diaries’), that we should put manga(s), our gossip tabloid, our pop songs and others to time capsule, and those will define our culture now. Whether we like it or not, it’s so un-deniable

It is essential that we should not close our eyes for the facts, disasters, sciences, but it’s not all life about. Life is also about enjoying it! To live it right! We need something fun and pain-eased entertainment to keep our life balanced.

Hell, I even learned my English through those so-called-shallow literatures, and I was kept entertained! ^_^

marriage: my subjective opinions

2 years ago, I found myself writing bout my marriage anniversary, this i wrote in multiply...

Thursday, May 22, 2008, approx at 4pm

With all the excitement for a sanguine might have, I proclaimed to friends at office that that day was my wedding anniversary

friends: owh, sweet!! congratulations!! any plan? candle light dinner? or else?
me: ?
friend: make a small concert for your hubby
me: too much fuss ...
friend: a cake will do then
me: o, lemme consider ...

same day at 8pm
me: Mum, apparently today my wedding anniversary
mum: owh, what date was your wedding?
me: mmm.... 21 ...
mum: it was yesterday...
me: oooo .... you're right....

Meanwhile my hubby had to take 5 minutes to recall our wedding's date when I mentioned about our anniversary, plus ... no 'congratulations' ever been spoken out loud
Looking back, we never actually look forward for anniversaries. As cliche as it may sound, the marriage we are in is worthier to be celebrated. For us being together for all these years are considered miracle!
As one of my friend's sister said to congratulate a newlywed: "Welcome to tornado!", I do consider marriage is one hell of a ride, but... I don't ride it alone at least!

and this one was written last year in facebook

Years of marriage will teach you these:
  • It’s ok to do activities separately, it’s not like you won’t see your spouse tomorrow. If you don’t; you have yesterdays to be remembered
  • Running out of something to talk? Never mind, you’ll have the rest of your life to figure it out
  • Your couple will never change; you will have to understand (eventually…)
  • It’s ok to snort, snore, fart, burp, or other grosse so-called-activities in the presence of your spouse. He/she already vowed to accept you in everything rite? No mistake done.
  • Once you have child (-ren), your spouse is not the love of your life. You just have too many things in your hand
  • You will treasure the-me-time with all your heart
  • The first-two- years will be the most difficult time, the third year will be better or worse (depends whether you care or not on your spouse’s ‘lack-of-development-attitude’)
  • Fights? It’s like strong spice to your food, it’s all about perspective and taste, whether you like it or hate it. Your call.
  • It is you married (or to be married) couple who will need to fill it in :D. Enjoy!

This year? we'll see ... ^^

Just started my own blog, rather than writing my thoughts all over the place

Well, I did say I will never create blog. In this case, James Bond proven right: Never Say Never
